Ken Wilson

Influenced by my biology, chemistry, and physics instructors at Capuchino and by my activities in the Boy Scouts, I wanted to be a marine biologist and went to San Francisco State College to pursue my intended career.  I worked at Steinhart Aquarium as a freshwater aquarist during my first two years of college. Upon graduating from college,  I took a job working as an aquatic biologist working for the California Department of Fish and Game. This led to a 42 year career in which I engaged in oceanographic research, sea otter studies, kelp forest restoration, construction and studies of man-made underwater reefs, streambed permitting, and oilspill prevention and response.  I retired in early 2006 and have worked as a retired annuitant for DFG since that time.

I lived in California my whole life.  Following College my career, I lived in San Carlos, Palo Alto, Aptos, Pacific Grove, Long Beach, ending up in Santa Barbara where I have resided since 1991.

I was married and divorced three times. Marriages lasted 3.5, 7.5, and 9.5 years. No children. My life partner is Anne, with whom I have lived since 1997.  My folks Sydney and Eleanor Wilson are now deceased. My brother Brent resides in Redwood City.  Our mother died in February 2009 at age 93 and our father died in 2011 at age 95. I continue to be interested in biology and the environment and spend a considerable time in the outdoors engaging in diving, snorkeling, hiking, biking, photography, and camping.

I am a member of the California Association of Professional Scientists but I belong to no other organizations

I am not particularly interested in spectator sports but may watch or play tennis.  I work out regularly in my home gym.

I went to SF State College earning a B.A. in Biology and spent two years doing studies working toward a Masters Degree.  I did not complete my Masters Degree because I accepted a job at the Department of Fish and Game.
